Jest
The project
Jest is the management software we designed and developed for ECIPA, the training organisation of the CNA in Catania, which offers services and training programmes to craft businesses, SMEs and professionals in the local area.
The tool has a clear purpose: to simplify the administrative management of the organisation’s clients, from the provision of services right through to electronic invoicing.
We have developed an intuitive and comprehensive management system that enables ECIPA to maintain a well-organised and efficient management control system.
The challenge
ECIPA manages a large and diverse user base, providing a range of services to different users. Traditional systems made this work complex and fragmented.
What was needed was a single tool capable of managing the provision of services for every type of user, issuing electronic invoices and overseeing the entire administrative process, thereby eliminating the complexities involved.
Our process
We have focused on the needs of those who use the management system on a daily basis. We began with a Discovery phase to analyse the complexity of the process. We then validated the idea through UX research. Finally, we developed the product using an Agile approach, with continuous releases at the end of each sprint.
We conducted stakeholder interviews, from which we gathered the information needed to gain a thorough understanding of users’ needs. On this basis, we designed a process comprising UX research and iterative testing. The result is a smooth and intuitive browsing experience and a modular, scalable management system.
On the back-end, we have developed REST APIs that handle the business logic of the management system and the delivery of the various services. We have integrated all aspects of electronic invoicing, ensuring that invoices are sent to the Interchange System (SdI) smoothly and securely.
On the front-end side, we developed the application using React and Next.js. The work was organised into sprints using the Agile framework: each release brought new features and saw the product evolve continuously.

Our approach
The work began before the design phase, with a discovery phase and a series of interviews with ECIPA’s stakeholders. The aim was to understand how the administrative work was actually carried out, before deciding how to change it.
We validated our hypotheses through research and only then moved on to the design phase.
Development was organised into sprints. At the end of each cycle, the ECIPA team had a working version of the product to test, provide feedback on and help steer.
