Living Pantalica

Living Pantalica is a free online tool that opens the doors of the Necropolis of Pantalica to anyone who wants to explore it. Archaeological finds, history and itineraries. All accessible with a click.
Our mission was to make culture simple, intuitive and enjoyable. No barriers, no complexity. Just a digital experience that enhances cultural heritage, where experts and curious minds can find exactly what they are looking for.
All cultural objects and itineraries available on Living Pantalica are in the public domain. This has been made possible by the integration of Linked Open Data, collected and centralised in a single platform designed to ensure accessibility, transparency and sharing.
The starting point is the single search bar, which reduces steps and simplifies interaction. Fewer clicks, less noise, a single point of access.
The search is suitable for both those who already have expertise in the field and those who approach it out of passion: from the archaeologist who uses technical terms to the visitor who explores out of curiosity. In short, for those who know how to search and those who do not.
Dynamic filters allow you to narrow down results based on specific interests. Each search term becomes a tag, easily editable without having to rewrite everything from scratch. This allows users to have full control and refine their search naturally and quickly.
The digital experience we created is the result of careful technological choices and a comprehensive design process, from brand identity to code.
We built Living Pantalica's visual identity from scratch: from the logo to the colour palette, from the typography to the iconography. An identity that perfectly complements the archaeological heritage, while maintaining a strong contemporary feel.
Wireframes and UX prototypes were used to test and optimise usability, ensuring accessibility, clarity and fluidity.
The data architecture includes Linked Open Data structured according to the JSON-LD standard and a dedicated broker that manages interoperability and ensures the scalability of the system.
To ensure high performance, we developed the platform using Next.js and React, connecting it to a non-relational database that allows user access and data to be managed securely.
